Howdy! Welcome back to Small Town Saturday. This year we are going to feature one small town from every state. Small towns are the heart of America! Be sure to put these on your bucket list! Today we are visiting Fairhope, Alabama-where southern charm is re-imagined. Fairhope, Alabama was settled in 1908 in the hopes of creating a ‘Single Tax’ colony based off of Henry George’s philosophy. The colonizers hoped by using this philosophy it would provide them with a ‘fair hope’ they would survive, unlike their predecessors. Today, you will find Fairhope lined with flowers and moss covered trees. With such undeniable charm and rich history, Fairhope continues to be a town people love to return to.
Fairhope is located between two airports; Mobile and Pensacola. You can fly nonstop into Mobile from Atlanta, Dallas-Ft.Worth, Houston, and Charlotte. Mobile is about 20 miles from Fairhope and about 60 miles from Pensacola so renting a car is a must!
Of course any road trip warrior would love the drive down South to Fairhope!

In the heart of downtown Fairhope, you will find the historic Fairhope Inn and Restaurant. The home was built in 1906, when visitors to the Eastern Shore arrived by steamboat. Their all-you-can-eat buffet is a local favorite and boasts fried chicken, seafood, sandwiches and more sides you can imagine!
Another local favorite is Tamara’s Downtown. You can enjoy casual fine dining in the heart of downtown. For a perfectly light lunch, enjoy a cup of gumbo and a sandwich or salad. Or get down with one of their handcrafted burgers.
Dinner consists of 4 categories-specialty entrees, seafood, steaks and pasta. Make sure you to enjoy Happy Hour from 3 pm-6 pm in the charming courtyard.
On Saturdays, Tamara’s is home to one of the best brunch spots since 2008. Guests are greeted with the beautiful sounds of jazz music. Create your perfect Bloody Mary at their Bloody Mary bar and garnish with any topping you can think of.
It is highly recommended to make reservations for brunch, although not required. With so many great options to choose from it’s hard for repeat guests to choose just one dish, but a few favorites are Sushi Grade Ahi Tuna, Fried Green Tomatoes and Crab topped with hollandaise.
Things to Do
You will find shopping, arts, and culture galore in Fairhope! One think you might not think of, though, is the Fairhope Beach and Park. Take a romantic stroll on the beach or through the park-home to ducks and geese! There is also a small playground and covered areas perfect for an outdoor family picnic.
Capture one of Fairhope’s striking sunsets at the Henry George Park on the Bluff. It also home to many public events like live concerts, and the spectacular 4th of July fireworks show. Guests can also get married on The Bluff as well.
Typically, Mardi Gras is only thought of when visiting New Orleans, but Fairhope knows how to party with the best of them. There are 4 family-friendly parades you can enjoy while riders throw beads, treats and moon pies. And a fan favorite is the Mutts of Revelry Pet Parade. Over 600 doggos take to the streets to support their local animal shelter.
In November, guests can enjoy the Fairhope Film Festival. It is held annually during the second weekend in November and features notable films, shorts and documentaries.
Kick off the holiday season at Fairhope’s Lighting of the Trees. Enjoy live music from the Fairhope Middle and High School Band, as well as the Eastern Shore Coral Society. And don’t forget to visit Mrs. Claus so she can hand deliver your letter to Santa!
