Ecuador Implements Temporary Entry Requirements

Ecuador

Howdy! As you might expect, the government in Ecuador is temporarily changing entry requirements. This in response to the uncertainty surrounding the new Omicron variant. Effective December 1, 2021, modified testing and vaccination requirements will be in effect for both Ecuador’s mainland and the Galapagos Islands.

The new requirements are as follows:

  • Travelers 16 years and older must present proof of full vaccination. You must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior.  You are also required to show a negative nasopharyngeal sample test result within 72 hours of departure for Ecuador.
  • Children between 2 and 15 years and 11 months and 29 days of age must present a negative nasopharyngeal sample test result within 72 hours of departure.
  • All passengers arriving to mainland by air must present the digital “Traveler’s Health Declaration” when boarding the plane. You can also provide the physical form at point of entry in Ecuador to the Ministry of Health officials.

They also have plenty of options to help with local testing. They can arrange express tests at airports as well as visiting services at hotels and haciendas.

Ecuador continues to gain ground on rising vaccination rates and lowering infection rates. As of last week, 74.8% of the population had received at least one dose of vaccine, with 63.3% fully vaccinated.  323 new infections are reported on average daily – just 14% of peak. The highest daily average was reported back on May 3.  Their infection rates are below the regional and world averages.
