Howdy! Welcome back to Small Town Saturday! I am so excited to share Mystic with you today. Mystic is full of New England charm but is also home to a rich maritime past. Let’s take a journey and see what makes this town so special!
Mystic was settled in 1654. It used to be a ship building seaport village and provided a safe harbor for taller ships that needed to weather a storm. Today, you will find quaint and colorful mom and pop shops and eateries through out its 4 square miles.
Where to Stay in Mystic
In the heart of downtown you will find The Whaler’s Inn. It has 47 rooms over it’s 5 distinct buildings. From the lobby you can enjoy the view of Bascule Drawbridge and enjoy a glass of wine in front of their gas fireplace. The Whaler’s Inn is the perfect for families with their junior suites, complete with custom bunk beds. And for anyone looking for a romantic stay, the deluxe accommodations feature an air-jet soaking bathtub and gas fireplaces.
The Stonecroft County Inn Bed and Breakfast has been welcoming guests for over 30 years. It’s 2 buildings offer 10 luxury king and queen guest rooms. You can choose from one of their historic or contemporary rooms. Your views include 6.5 acres of rolling hills and manicured gardens. Mystic is a very popular wedding destination, and Stonecroft can accommodate up to 75 guests.
Another Inn located in the heart of downtown is The Inn at Mystic. Sprawled out over 14 acres and complete with views of Mystic Harbor, you will find their beautiful Colonial style guest rooms. Their on-site restaurant, Rocks 12, is open 7 days a week and features fresh seasonal and local cuisine.
Places to Eat
Dine with the locals at Bravo Bravo. It features fresh Italian cruise, with homemade pasta and fresh fish. You can even stop by for happy hour and enjoy some of the best specials in town.
Red 36 Bar & Grill is a waterfront restaurant, where you can dine in or outdoors and revel in the beautiful views. You find a variety of seafood, burgers and cocktails and is an absolute must-try for visitors.
One of the newest eateries in Mystic is the Shipwright’s Daughter. Guests will enjoy New England’s fresh and flavorful food heritage. The menu changes daily so you can be sure to enjoy something new each and every time you visits.
Things to Do
There is plenty to see and do when you are in Mystic. Walk up and down Main street and enjoy some shopping.
For the adventurer, visit Adventure Mystic. You can rent paddle boards, kayaks, bikes and snowboards. Mystic Boat Adventures offers guided tours where you can drive your own boat!
Follow your guide and dusk by lantern as you learn the history and mystery that surrounds Mystic with Seaside Shadows. On the tour you will have the opportunity to capture your own evidence that many claim to have had paranormal encounters.
No visit is complete with a visit to one of the local breweries or wineries. Downtown you will find Barley Head Brewery. It is the only nano-brewery in Mystic and offers 3-5 beers on tap. Beers change out weekly, so your always in for a surprise! Jonathan Edwards Winery is nestled among it’s 48 acres. You will find “New England charm with Napa style”. Jonathan Edwards Winery hosts numerous events throughout the year. In the spring and fall you can enjoy one of their large festivals as well.
