Today we visit Finland where winter arrived in mid-October, and if the temperature in the United States or where ever you find yourself is getting too hot, know that you can take a Winter wonderland road trip within that month or if you desire to take a Spring-like road trip, we encourage you to take one this April or May! Although we must warn you, Springtime is pleasantly warm and still frozen. Therefore, if you want to keep it cool around these months then read on!

One of the most attractive road trips in Finland is the Lietvedis Scenic Road. It is located between the towns of Mikkeli and Puumala. This road has marvelous lakes on the side, beautiful bridges, pierced by rocky islands, and eskers. Don’t forget to visit the Pistohiekka beach which is one of the most photographed landscapes in Finland and is also a causeway that interlaces through the heart of Lake Saimaa with its sandy beaches, campsites, and dance pavilion.

Life in Utsjoki: A Town in Finnish Lapland Bordering Norway

If you drive on Route 970 which passes near the Teno river which is nestled between the villages of Utsjoki and Karigasniemi, you can experience the beauty and culture of northern Lapland. The furthest you can go in Finland is colorful Utsjoki, being a few dozen kilometers away from the Arctic Ocean. The Village is covered in stunted trees, Ice glaciers, and bushes. There is no sign of shopping centers there but it is a place with the largest wilderness areas in Finland and thousands of years of traditions, culture, and history occupy the region including ancient sheep farms.

The Green Gold Culture Road is described as a pathway that words or pictures cannot describe the magnificent views. This road is forest-themed and it is in the Saimaa lake district, the route also leads to smaller roads close by to shorelines and woodlands. The “green” and “gold” from the name are derived from the money which comes from the harvested Timber from Finland’s forests. Savonlinna is a town in the area that holds one of the world’s most renowned opera festivals which is held in a medieval castle every July.
