San Marino

Lovers of History, Art and Romance! The Most Serene Republic of San Marino is the place for you and for those who love panoramas. You are technically in Italy since San Marino is surrounded by the Region Emilia-Romagna and on the other side, the Adriatic Sea, making it an easy trip from cities like Florence or Bologna. Its history goes back to the 4th Century AD. It is considered the world’s smallest, oldest, independent state. It is home for UNESCO World Heritage sites like Mount Titano, San Marino City and Borgo Maggiore.

It is a tiny green oasis, a perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Complete with unspoiled land, rolling hills, wineries and fortresses, is an ideal place to visit. Not counting the tax-free shopping in its chic shops and boutiques, malls and outlets. It boasts a simple and delicious cuisine with flavors from neighboring regions mixed with local herbs and ingredients. The torta tre monti, a delightful chocolate and hazelnut layer cake, is delicious! Something very special is the tilus, a truffle infused after dinner liquor, San Marino has a wide range of museums like the State Museum, the San Francesco Museum and the Museum of Ancient Arms among others. It also has its own military and it is fascinating to witness the tradition of changing of the guard at the Palazzo Pubblico from April to September.
