Howdy! Today is Travel News Thursday! We have some very important news regarding passport fees.
The U.S. State Department announced this week that passport fees will be increasing by $20 effective December 27th. The increase will support production. According to the State Department this increase is “necessary to ensure we continue to produce one of the most secure travel and identity documents in the world”.
This summer and early fall processing times had increased from the routine 8-11 weeks to 12-18 weeks. Unfortunately the State Department is experiencing staff shortages and backlogs.
Passport Fee Schedule
- Adults over age 16 applying for the first-time will pay $165 (up from $145).
- Adults over age 16 renewing a passport will pay $130 (up from $110)
- Minors under 16 seeking a passport will pay $135 (up from $115)
If you need to expedite you can expect to pay an extra $60. Processing times for expedition range between 6-7 weeks, not including delivery time. You can also pay an additional $17.56 for 1-2 day deliver.
Customers with urgent travel needs or life-or-death emergencies will be prioritized and must call a passport agency center to make an appointment; however, availability is limited.
