Easter Destinations

Howdy! You might not think of Easter as a time to take a vacation, but there are so many unique destinations you can visit all while celebrating the Easter holiday!

Let’s take a journey through some of the best destinations you can travel to for Easter!

Rome, Italy

Ah Rome! Home to the Colosseum and of course, Vatican City. You’ll need at least a week to full enjoy this Easter experience. Celebrations start on Palm Sunday, where Pilgrams flock to St. Peters Square with huge palm leaves.

But the main event is really an incredible experience. Easter Friday, the Pope himself, leads a candlelit procession to the Colosseum, along with a giant burning cross to help lead the way. This even is known as Via Crucis,

Believers and non-believers alike agree it is an absolutely incredible experience.

Zaragoza, Spain

While Zaragoza might not be the first city you think of when traveling to Spain is large one of the most underrated destinations in Spain.

Semana Santa (Easter Week) is not only a beautiful time of year to visit, but also provides a very authentic Spanish experience where you will find very little foreign travelers.

In order to fully enjoy as many celebrations as possible, you will want to arrive before Good Friday. The Procesión General del Santo leaves from the Iglesia de Santa Isabel de Portugal. All 25 of the city’s brotherhoods participates and is the longest procession in all of Spain.

There are about 50 processions that are held throughout the week so you can really immerse yourself in their culture.

Krakow, Poland

You may have heard of the Christmas Markets throughout Europe, but in Krakow you can experience their Easter Markets!

Typically, the Easter Markets are running 2 weeks before Easter and ends Easter Monday. You can enjoy a variety of food and drink all while shopping for the perfect gifts to bring home!

Stroll along and enjoy some of the best dishes Poland has to offer. If you have never had a pierogy, you are missing out. Pierogy’s are the polish version of a stuffed dumpling and they are absolutely incredible! Or grab a Kielbasa and wash it down with a Tyskie beer.

During the Easter holiday, many of the churches hold mass twice a day. The churches are open to the public and everyone is welcome!

Crete, Greece

Easter is the most important holiday in the Orthodox calendar, so you are in for a real treat visiting Greece during Easter.

Celebrations are kicked off on Kathara Deftera (Clean Monday) which marks the start of Lent. For 49 days people will avoid meat, eggs and dairy. Megali Evdomada is the week before Easter. People attend church services daily. Mothers and their children spend the week dying eggs red, to signify the blood of Jesus.

Finally, on Easter Sunday families gather to share the Easter table where everyone eats, drinks, sings and dances!
