Back in March we reported that the deadline for obtaining your REAL ID was quickly approaching – as in October 2021. Yesterday however, the Department of Homeland Security decided to extend that deadline – nineteen months – from October first of 2021 to May third of 2023.
This is due to the fact that one – many people were having a hard time getting to the motor vehicle department in their state and two – many states were having a hard time issuing REAL ID’s due to limited capacity mandates. And yes – both were direct results of the pandemic. In order to give both the states and US citizens enough time to meet this new requirement for domestic travel, the deadline was pushed back.
For more details on the REAL ID check out the original post here. And then why not make plans to obtain it this year anyway – instead of waiting until crunch time.
Namaste!
